In case you didn’t already know, there are many types of seeds that you could use to propagate! As I was experimenting with growing from my compost, I thought to give lemon seeds a try. It’s been very rewarding to watch them grow! Here are step-by-step instructions on how to germinate your own lemon plant:
1. Save the seeds once you’ve used your lemon. Rinse and do not dry.
2. Peel the outer skin to reveal inner brown skin. This will help speed up the germination process. Place peeled seeds covered in a damp paper towel.
3. Place seeds in paper towel into a sealed plastic bag or small air tight container. Place in a dark cool place for 7-10 days (I put mine under the kitchen sink)
4. Once the seeds have started to sprout roots, pot them into regular potting mix with roots facing downwards and the tip of the lemon seeds showing.
5. Spray soil to keep moist every 1-2 days. In about a week, you’ll see the leaves while your branches start to sprout!
6. Water your lemon plant when top soil is dry.
HAPPY PLANTING!
